Gary Olson retired in 2003 after practicing corporate law at Latham & Watkins LLP for 35 years.  While at Latham, his practice focused on mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, and general corporate and securities matters. He served as primary outside counsel to a number of public and privately held companies and he regularly represented boards of directors and special committees in corporate governance matters.  He was chair of the Latham corporate department from 1989 to 1996.  Mr. Olson grew up in and went to college in Kansas — Pittsburg State University (BS 1965) and University of Kansas (JD 1968).

WHY LIBERTAS?

Our family is very involved in education.  My wife taught pre-school in La Canada for over 25 years and volunteered for many years in the early childhood programs at Descanso Gardens. Our two daughters have followed in her footsteps—one is a substitute elementary and middle school teacher in Glendale and the other is a special education teacher and currently runs a special needs program at the Palm Crest Elementary School in La Canada. Our daughters received good educations in the La Canada school system.  I have given talks on charter schools and have seen first hand what good education can do for young children and hope to provide that opportunity to the Libertas community.
